The Petersburg YMCA serves a very diverse community with essential programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors. The aging existing facility lacked the types of spaces needed to serve the broad range of programs for the community. Enteros Design assisted the YMCA with conducting an existing conditions assessment, verifying and refining the existing program, and revising conceptual diagrams previously prepared by Gro Development.

Using the information gathered in the existing conditions assessment and revised program, Enteros Design was able to redesign the Petersburg YMCA to provide the programs and services needed by the community, while working with the existing building features, building code requirements, and project budget. Several steps were taken to minimize the impact of building code requirements and existing building conditions on the project. These steps included providing fire separations to meet code required square footage limitations, adjusting the floor to floor height to work with the existing conditions, and modifying the extent of glazing and other building materials to reduce cost. After approval of the concept design and the project budget, Enteros Design moved forward with implementing the design and preparing construction documents.
