The City of Fredericksburg recently relocated its Visitor Center from a stand-alone facility into the ground floor of the Government Center at Executive Plaza. This move provided an opportunity to reimagine the building’s first-floor lobby as a vibrant and engaging destination for both residents and guests.

The new Visitor Center is designed to be more than just an information hub. It is now a welcoming and dynamic environment where visitors can discover all that Fredericksburg has to offer. Interactive displays and exhibits highlight local events, tours, trails, dining, and cultural attractions, while a retail area offers regional merchandise and souvenirs. To support community use, the space also incorporates a large multi-purpose meeting room, staff offices, a break room, and storage areas.

The project also extended beyond the interior. Enhancements to the building’s exterior, including new landscaping, outdoor seating, and playful sculptural elements such as otters, soften the modernist character of the seven-story structure and create a more approachable, pedestrian-friendly presence. Together, these improvements transform the Government Center’s ground floor into a lively and welcoming gateway to the city that reflects Fredericksburg’s charm, history, and sense of community.
