Petersburg Library Landscaping
The cultural and heritage specific design of the new Petersburg Public Library extends from the interior and exterior design of the building into the landscape. A landscaped entry plaza provides a procession where the visitor transitions for the hectic urban environment to the serene environment of the library interior. An alley of trees marches along with granite benches creating an environment for outdoor events or quiet meditation. A sculptural stacked stone garden creates additional outdoor seating and symbolizes the Falls of the Appomattox River, the genesis for the original settlement of Petersburg. Surrounding the library are landscaped gardens which represent the seven ecosystems of Virginia.
